The mission Écolofie is to build a better future for our planet without compromising on style. The collection includes environmentally friendly T-shirts, sweaters and knitwear, all made responsibly using surplus materials, recycled polyester and organic cotton in the products.
Écologie uses the latest innovations in fabric technology in its manufacturing. Recycled yarn is generated from fabric waste from the cutting plant that has previously been taken to a landfill. Today, the cutting plant has its own team that collects and sorts cutting waste by color. Once the fabric sections have been sorted, they are shredded, mixed with the polyester and then spun into yarn to form a fabric.
The benefit of this technique is that the process is completely dry - because the cutting waste is sorted by color, the cotton is no longer re-dyed. This naturally reduces the use of chemicals as well as water. The process also reduces the amount of waste going to landfill and the cultivation of cotton, and thus the CO² emissions associated with the cultivation and processing of cotton, as well as the land required for cultivation.
Compared to regular cotton, recycled cotton saves per ton:
- 8 liters of water
- 2 liters of wastewater
- 25 kg of chemicals
- 25 kW / h energy
- 0,5 m² of cotton-growing land
